CHICAGO -- Forty-five student-athletes representing 16 varsity sports received their bachelor's degrees from UIC at the completion of the 2014-15 academic year. The graduation ceremonies, held at the UIC Pavilion, honored students graduating either at the conclusion of the spring semester or summer session.
The Flames' swimming & diving squad had a combined 10 student-athletes graduate. The men's gymnastics team boasted the second most graduates with five student-athletes receiving their degrees while the women's cross country/track & field, volleyball, women's golf, women's gymnastics and baseball programs had four.
The men's basketball and men's cross country/track & field teams saw three student-athletes graduate. The men's tennis, women's basketball, softball and women's tennis programs each had one student-athlete graduate.
Whitney Johnson holds the program record for the one-meter dive (307.50) and graduates as the first UIC diver to quality for four straight NCAA Zone C Championships. Sara Sternard (1,023 kills) became the 16th member of UIC's 1,000 Kills Club and Maggie Strus broke the program record with 1,677 career digs.
Gabrielle May closed out her career with two NCAA regional appearances and Jason Gaides qualified for three straight NCAA Championships in the all-around competition. Tess Ehrhardt earned four Horizon League individual titles, two in cross country and two in track (3000m, 5000m) while Rebecca Zaiter was a two-time conference champion in track (800m, 1500m).
Marc Brown (1,022 points) became the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 career points and Seyi Ogunleye won the men's triple jump at the 2014 Horizon League Outdoor Championships. Tyler Detmer owns a career .317 batting average, 186 hits and 98 RBIs entering his final homestand this weekend.
Paige Peterson graduates with a .348 batting average, which ranks ninth in program history. Keti Mebuke finished with 70 combined victories, including 49 in singles play.
