June 19, 2015

CHICAGO - UIC Athletics announced the hiring of Chris McMillian as a Director of Player Performance Friday. McMillian spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant men's basketball coach at the College of Southern Idaho and will work with the men's basketball program at UIC.

McMillian was a standout basketball player under current UIC head coach Steve McClain at the University of Wyoming from 1998-2003. He started at point guard all four years for the Cowboys and helped the team to two Mountain West Conference championships and one NCAA tournament berth in 2002.

McMillian currently ranks fourth all-time at Wyoming with 434 career assists and sixth with 136 steals. He is second with 93 consecutive starts and his 3.5 assists per game rank in the top 15.

"Chris is a great addition to our staff," said McClain. "Having watched Chris grow from a player to someone who can help young people develop both on and off the court has been great."

McMillian previously served as men's basketball strength coach and video coordinator at University of Hawaii (2010-12). He also filled the role of Director of Basketball Operations for the Rainbow Warriors from 2012-14.

Prior to his time at Hawaii, McMillian was the director of men's basketball operations at Centenary College in Shreveport, La., during the 2009-10 season. His duties included coordinating all video activities including film exchange and game breakdown. He also assisted in the Gents' strength and conditioning.

Prior to working at Centenary, McMillian spent six years as a personal trainer and performance specialist in Phoenix, Ariz. McMillian assisted athletes in improving their speed, quickness, explosiveness, as well as providing nutritional advice. As a personal trainer, he designed workout programs aimed at 15 trainers and their clients.

A native of Brea, California, McMillian graduated from Wyoming in 2003 with a degree in communications. He received his Master's in Educational Administration from the University of Hawaii in 2013.
