Each sport will be featured over eight weeks as we preview the upcoming year in UIC Athletics. In this installment of 'Top 25 Flames for 2015-16', we will look at sophomore women's swimmer
Brianna Hines. Hines made an instant splash in her debut season as she was named the 2015 Horizon League Freshman of the Year. She won the 1650 free and 500 free events to conclude the season at the 2015 Horizon League Championships.
Hines won the 1650 free with a school-record time of 16:42.62 and defeated her next opponent by nearly ten seconds. She then won the 500 free with a program and Championship record time of 4:50.67. Hines also collected a third place finish in the 1000 free (10:09.72) at the event.
At the start of the season, Hines shattered Klotsche Natatorium 1650 free record by over 15 seconds and won two other events against Milwaukee (Nov. 8). She was selected as the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week for her record-breaking effort.
Hines finished the season with 15 individual victories, including six 500 free events and three 1000 free competitions. She was also a member of two victorious 400 free relay squads.
