NORMAL, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team scored its highest team score of the season thus far against Illinois State Sunday afternoon at the Horton Field House in Normal, Ill. The Flames were defeated 194.175-191.450.
Freshman Mikailla Northern scored a 9.600 or higher on all four events to earn a season-high 38.800 in all-around competition. Fellow-freshman Jenna Squillo followed in second with a 37.800.
UIC earned highest team event score on vault and bars, earning a 48.325 on both events. On bars, Northern was the top finisher, taking third with a 9.700. Squillo tied with teammate Nicole Szabo for fourth, each earning a 9.675.
On vault, Squillo took home first with a 9.775, her highest of the season. Northern followed in a tie for second, earning a 9.750. Allison Broad scored a 9.650 on the apparatus, while Nikki Woodruff took a 9.575.
Amelia Rafferty earned the team-high on floor, earning a 9.675 to take fifth. Northern took home a 9.600, followed closely by Emily DeCesare with a 9.575.
UIC finished the afternoon on beam, where Northern and Sabrina Tomassini landed in a four-way-tie for second place with a score of 9.750. Szabo earned a 9.575, while Riley Mahoney scored a 9.550.
The Flames will travel to Shreveport, La. to take on fellow MIC-member Centenary College on Monday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. CT.
