UIC’s Win Streak Ends with 1-0 Loss at Oakland

Flames outshoot opponent for fourth-straight game with 11-6 margin

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The UIC women's soccer team (4-7-2, 2-2-0 HL) had its three game win streak come to an end Saturday night as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Oakland (5-7-1, 2-2-0 HL) at the Oakland Soccer Field.

The Flames produced 11 shots in the match and held the Golden Grizzlies to six attempts, marking the fourth consecutive game they have outshot their opponent. Jasmin Carrera, Tamae Douglas and Rebeca Pallo each had two shots each with Emily Wauer and Olivia Everin recording the two shots on goal.

Kelly Fritz played her third straight complete game and made two saves in the match as she was faced with less than 10 shots for the third consecutive game.

Oakland scored the lone goal in the 14th minute on its second shot of the game as Brooke Miura fired off an attempt from 30 yards out that went in on the far right side. UIC increased its chances in the following four minutes as it took four shots, but all were off target.

After Fritz grabbed her first save in the 22nd minute, Wauer put up the first shot on goal of the game for the Flames. Alexis Jakuszewski followed with an attempt sent high before the next shot came in favor of UIC with Samantha Messina taking a chance wide. One more shot was allotted the remainder of the half that went to the Golden Grizzlies.

Everin got the first shot of the second half in the 57th minute that was saved. After a blocked shot for Oakland in the 60th minute, both teams went without a shot for 15 minutes until Carrera had an attempt blocked with the Golden Grizzlies then forcing up a shot that was saved.

In the final five minutes, the Flames had their last run at the goal with Paige Proctor heading the ball wide and Pallo then having her shot blocked. It would be the last chance of the game despite earning the team's fifth corner kick of the match.

UIC will be back in action next Saturday (Oct. 8) at Cleveland State for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff at Krenzler Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
