DAYTON, Ohio – The UIC women's soccer team (6-9-2, 4-4-0 HL) kept its postseason hopes alive Saturday afternoon as it collected its third Horizon League shutout of the season in a 1-0 final over Wright State (6-8-2, 4-2-1 HL) at Alumni Field.

The win improved UIC's chances to secure a spot in the Horizon League Tournament as it moved into a three-way tie for fifth place with Valparaiso and Oakland.

The Flames and Raiders both attempted 13 shots in the game with six coming on goal for UIC.
Rebeca Pallo led the team with three shots, followed by
Emily Valentine, Carrera and
Kendall Wilde with two each. The four all had one shot on goal in addition to
Emily Wauer and
Naomi Rushe.

Kelly Fritz earned her third shutout of the season as she was forced to make five saves, which marked the fifth time this season she made at least five stops.

Possession rotated from the first whistle as Wright State was able to get three shots off target before Valentine had the first attempt for UIC in the 12th minute that was sent wide and Pallo followed with the first shot on goal of the game right at the start of the 20th minute.

Fritz was forced to make her first save of the game in the 30th minute as she came out from between the posts to make the stop.
Tamae Douglas had a near chance 30 seconds later but shot it just wide.

In the 34th minute, Wauer took the ball into the left corner and passed it to the middle of the box as Carrera was breaking and found the ball to send it into the opposite corner for her first goal of the season and the 1-0 lead for the Flames. The Raiders did not let up as they secured three shots with two on goal over the next four minutes.

It was all UIC in the second half as it was able to turn out five shots in the opening 15 minutes with two great chances from Wilde and Valentine. After a pair of looks sent wide from Pallo and Wilde, Rushe took a shot from the top of the box that was saved in the 71st minute followed by an attempt on goal from Wauer.

The Flames had a strong presence on defense as they limited Wright State to three shots until the final 10 minutes of play when it made its last effort and turned out two attempts with one on goal.

UIC will close out the regular season next Friday (Oct. 28) at Flames Field as it hosts Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. CT. It will also serve as Senior Night with the Flames set to honor
Jasmin Carrera,
Cecilia Magos and
Kendall Wilde.
