Men’s Soccer to Take on Detroit Mercy at Flames Field

Flames head into weekend matchup positioned with 3-1-0 Horizon League record

The UIC men's soccer team (4-5-2, 3-1-0 HL) will be looking to improve on its 3-0-1 record over the last four games Saturday night when it hosts Detroit Mercy (1-7-3, 0-3-1 HL) at Flames Field at 7 p.m. CT to coincide with its Alumni Day.
 
The Flames recently ended their three-game win streak when they played to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference match against Northern Illinois (Oct. 4). Max Todd pulled up for his fifth goal of the year and recorded a career-high nine shots and five on goal to lead UIC in their second-consecutive 20-plus shot performance with 25.
 
This season, the Flames have turned out 14 goals with six against conference opponents, who they have outshot 59-31. Todd has paced UIC all season as he currently owns the top mark in goals (5), assists (4), shots (31) and shots on goal (18) to rank third in the Horizon League in goals and assists and sixth in shots. Jose Fuentes additionally sits toward the top with four goals and two assists as he has put 12 of his 23 attempts on goal.
 
Andrew Putna continues to hold a perfect 0.00 goals-against-average during conference play, with an overall average of 1.46. He owns three shutouts on the year and has made 29 saves, with seven stops against Horizon League foes.
 
Detroit Mercy heads to the Windy City having lost its last three games against Michigan, Milwaukee and Fort Wayne. The lone win on the year came two weeks ago in a non-conference tilt against Western Michigan in a 2-1 decision.
 
The Titans own eight goals on the year with four in conference competition as Spiro Pliakos (3) and Tommy Bowman (2) have made of five of the tallies and have each added one assist. The pair additionally own 42 of the team's 102 shots with Pliakos having 10 on goal and Bowman with seven.
 
Robbie Beckwell has played the most minutes in goal for Detroit Mercy and has made 43 saves while acquiring one shutout and a 1.53 GAA. Josh Flamme played the complete game against Fort Wayne for a total of 110 minutes on the year as he has made three saves and allowed three goals for a 2.47 GAA.
 
The all-time series has presented the Flames with a 9-11-4 record against the Titans, while they are 5-6-0 in games played at Flames Field. Last season, the two teams played to a 2-2 draw in Detroit.
