CHICAGO - The UIC women's gymnastics team earned its third straight dual win over first-place Lindenwood on Monday evening at the UIC Pavilion. Despite being down 145.300-143.750 going into the fourth rotation, the Flames tied their season-high team score on floor to defeat the Lions 192.225-191.950.
"It was exciting to beat last year's conference champion," co-head coach Peter Jansson said. "We had a flat start on vault, but came back strong on floor to come out on top."
UIC started on vault, where Nikki Woodruff led for the Flames, taking third with a 9.725. Mikailla Northern placed sixth behind a tie for fourth, earning a 9.675. Sabrina Tomassini followed with a 9.600 on the event.
Nicole Szabo took home her third first-place finish of the season on bars, registering a 9.800. Katie Snyder tied her career-high 9.725 to earn fourth. Northern (9.650) and Woodruff (9.625) followed in fifth and sixth, consecutively.
On beam, Sabrinna Tomassini tied with Northern for first place, each earning a 9.725. Jenna Squillo followed in third with a 9.625 on the event.
UIC shined on floor, where both Szabo and Northern recorded a personal-best score of 9.775 to tie for second place. Emily DeCesare earned a season-high 9.700 on floor, tying Amelia Rafferty in sixth place.
Northern earned the top spot in all-around competition, finishing the evening with a final score of 38.825. Woodruff followed in second, earning a 37.900.
UIC will head to Denver on Saturday, Feb. 27 for a quad meet alongside Southeast Missouri and Iowa.
