BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The UIC women's tennis team (1-1) earned its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Bowling Green (1-5) at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Flames bested the Falcons by a final score of 4-3.
Bianca Zuzu didn't allow a single point on the afternoon, blanking opponent Marina Ferrero, 6-0, 6-0 in singles at the No. 5 spot. Zuzu combined with Jackie Altansarnai in doubles to defeat Bowling Green's Leeah Floyd and Antonina Farrar 6-0 at No. 3.
Ann-Sophie Hahn brought down Polina Radeva 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot, while Rachel Le Comber bested Leah Floyd 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. In the No. 4 spot, Melika LeBlanc defeated Emily Witt 6-1 in the first set before Witt retired in the second.
Also in singles, Altansarnai fell to Paula Comella Aguilo, 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. In the No. 3 spot, Drew Fillis defeated Oana Manole 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1).
Aside from Zuzu and Altansarnai's win in doubles, the combination of Aguilo and Fillis narrowly defeated Manole and LeComber 7-6 (3). Radeva and Witt bested Hahn and LeBlanc 6-3.
UIC will make the quick trip north to take on its second consecutive MAC opponent, Toledo, tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT.
