CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team took a 4-3 loss against fellow Horizon League-member Cleveland State on Saturday at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. Seniors Jackie Altansarnai and Ann-Sophie Hahn were honored for their UIC careers prior to the match.
Bianca Zuzu and Altansarnai started off doubles with a 6-0 sweep against Victoria Bensimon and Morgan Nix in the No. 3 spot.
Hahn and Melika LeBlanc were edged out by Mathilde Orange and Princess Gbadamosi, 7-5 at No. 2 and Oana Manole and Rachel Le Comber were brought down by Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golwaska 6-3 at No. 1 to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
Golawska bested Le Comber 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 to start off singles competition, and Zuzu took down Jana Shober 6-0, 6-1 to bring the match to 2-1.
Hahn tied the score with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Orange at No. 2, but Bensimon topped Manole 6-4, 6-4 to help CSU regain the lead.
Gbadamosi sealed the win for the Vikings, defeating LeBlanc 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 at No. 4. Altansarnai earned the third point for UIC at No.1 with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Spindler.
The Flames will close out the regular season tomorrow against Youngstown State at 10 a.m. at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
