CHICAGO -- UIC's eight-week summer session came to an end on Friday, August 5, and the 2016 fall semester is right around the corner. UICFlames.com sat down with the seven newcomers on the men's basketball team to look back at summer in the city, and ahead to what fans can expect in the 2016-17 season.
The first freshman in the hot seat is point guard
Godwin Boahen. Boahen is a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he prepped at The Hill Academy. He was an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) First Team All-Star after averaging 18.1 points per game, while handing out nearly four assists per contest. Boahen was rated as a three-star prospect and he chose UIC over offers from Saint Louis and Niagara.
"Godwin is a true point guard," noted UIC head coach
Steve McClain. "He has the ability to score, and at the same time, knows exactly how to run the team and get his teammates involved on both ends of the floor."
"Godwin is a coach's dream," said The Hill Academy assistant coach and Canada Elite head coach
Jordan McFarlane. "He is a well-mannered kid with great values and respect for others. Godwin is a point guard who defends well and is a great floor general. He can stretch the defense with his 3-point shooting ability, but he also has a lightning quick first step that gets him to the basket at will. Godwin is a tough basketball player that will lay it all on the line for you every night."
