Women’s Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision at SIUE

Wauer scores second goal of season in 63rd minute

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The UIC women's soccer team (1-2-2) could not come back from a deficit Friday night as it fell to SIUE (2-2-1) in a 3-1 decision at Ralph Korte Stadium. Emily Wauer produced the lone goal for the Flames for her second of the season.

UIC claimed its fourth double-digit shot total of the season with 11 attempts on the night. Six of those shots reached on goal from Wauer (2), Olivia Everin, Jasmin Carrera, Rebeca Pallo and Paige Proctor.

The Flames defense kept the Cougars to 10 shots in the game as they put five on goal and forced goalkeeper Annie DiCanio to come up with two saves.

UIC got off to a quick start as Proctor and Pallo each had a shot saved in the seventh minute of action. After an attempt from Wauer was stopped in the 20th minute, SIUE put up four shots before scoring the first goal of the game in the 30th minute off a header from Caroline Hoefert.

In the 39th minute, the Flames were positioned with a great opportunity as they were fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick. Carrera stepped up to take the attempt but had her shot saved.

With a mere seven seconds remaining in the first half, the Cougars increased their lead when Peyton Roehnelt scored.

Everin led UIC at the start of the second half as she acquired three shots in the first 10 minutes. At the 63rd minute mark, Wauer brought the Flames within one as she scored off a pass from Proctor. SIUE went back up by two goals five minutes later as Avery Anderson put in the final goal.

Just two more shots came for UIC the remainder of the game as Madison Pollard and Jennifer Saviski sent their attempts wide and high, respectively.

The Flames will look to respond when they return home to host Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at Flames Field.
