UIC v Iowa Results
IOWA CITY, Iowa- The UIC men's gymnastics team concluded its dual meet road tour after facing Iowa on Sunday afternoon inside the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Flames finished the day with a final score of 374.300 falling short to the Hawkeyes's score of 404.100.
"We ran out of gas toward the end of the day…though we had a lot of great spots," said head coach
Charley Nelson. "We're hitting some good routines and sticking dismounts."
Seniors
Jacob Thurber and
Christopher Root led the way for the Flames posting competitive scores on each of their events. Thurber notched a second place finish on floor after scoring a 13.950 on the event while fellow senior
Alexander Dumstorf finished third with a 13.750.
Thurber was also a team best on the parallel bars with his score of 12.900, and Root followed suit tallying a 12.850 on the event. Root also finished fourth overall on pommel horse (12.200), earned the top spot for the Flames on high bar (13.050) and was second best on rings with a 12.250 after finishing behind freshman
Tyler Ball who's score of 12.550 was a team high on the event.
Freshman
Asad Jooma finished in second place on vault after notching a 14.350 while fellow freshman Dalai Jamiyakhuu followed with a score of 14.000.
"We've got two weekends off so we'll step back and regroup at home," said Nelson. "It'll be great to focus in on some of the recurring problems in our sets and clean up everything."
The Flames will break for two weeks before returning to action Feb. 11 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete against William and Mary at the annual Peach tree Invitational.
