EAST LANSING, Mich. – The UIC women's gymnastics team came up short in its 2017 debut on Friday night, falling 194.175-191.475 at Michigan State. The Flames' 191.475 is the highest team total in a season opener since 2013.
Mikailla Northern took home the top spot in all-around competition, totaling a 38.675 across all four events.
UIC opened competition on bars, earning a 47.650.
Jenna Squillo and
Serena Baker were the Flames' top finishers, earning a 9.625 to tie for sixth.
Katie Snyder and
Mikailla Northern followed with a 9.575, while
Maddie Nowak recorded a 9.250.
Northern paced the Flames on vault, taking second with a 9.725.
Nikki Woodruff landed in a three-way-tie for third with a 9.675, while
Toni Alicke landed just behind in sixth with a 9.650.
Riley Mahoney and
Allison Broad rounded out the event, each earning a 9.525.
On floor, Woodruff was the top finisher alongside teammate
Abby Hasanov, tying for fifth with a 9.675. Alicke mirrored her vault score with a 9.650, while Northern took a 9.625 on the apparatus.
The Flames finished out the evening on beam, where Northern also took home second with a 9.750. Woodruff and Squillo landed in a tie for sixth, each earning a 9.650.
UIC will travel to Champaign, Ill. on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a quad meet with Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Rutgers.
