Flames Edged 3-2 by Green Bay in #HLVB Quarterfinals

UIC’s season comes to a close

CLEVELAND – The UIC women's volleyball team endured a tough 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 10-25, 13-15) loss to No. 4 Green Bay in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament on Friday inside the Woodling Gymnasium of Cleveland State. The Flames were strong in the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead, but were unable to come away with the win as the Phoenix took the next three.

Match Highlights
  • Set One: The Flames pulled out to an 8-4 lead to start the set, and were able to maintain the lead with a strong offensive front. UIC led by as many as five on four different occasions through the set, and held strong on the lead until the Phoenix came within two at the 20-18 mark.
  • Set One: Following a UIC timeout, the Flames took four straight, thanks to a kill from Kyisha Hunt and a trio of Green Bay errors. The Phoenix offense put together three unanswered points with the Flames stuck at set point, and an out of bounds kill by the Phoenix gave the Flames set one, 25-21.
  • Set Two: The second set was a closer battle, until the UIC offense took three in-a-row with a pair of kills from Hunt and a kill from Sarah Daneliak to hand UIC a 12-9 advantage. Green Bay responded with four of their own to regain the lead, 13-12.
  • Set Two: The Flames took back the lead at the 16-15 mark, but weren't able to create space until they put together four straight late, 24-19. A UIC error gave the Phoenix their final point of the set, as Hunt stuffed a feed from Nicole Johnson to end it, 25-19.
  • Set Two: The Flames offense continued to show its strength in the second set, as UIC hit .400 as a squad compared to Green Bay's .296 hitting percentage.
  • Set Three: The Phoenix started the third frame hot with a 7-1 lead, leaving UIC to chip away at the gap. The Flames took six of the next seven at the 8-3 mark to tie at nine, and the lead eventually switched over to UIC, 11-10.
  • Set Three: Leading 16-14, the Flames endured a tough six-point streak to put the Phoenix ahead once again, 20-16. UIC was unable to gain enough momentum to overcome the deficit, as Green Bay got on the board with a 25-18 win.
  • Set Four: Green Bay was unstoppable in the fourth, hitting .435 in the set to best the Flames 25-10.
  • Set Five: The tiebreaker started in favor of the Phoenix, as they grabbed a 10-6 early. But the Flames took five of the next six to tie it at 11 apiece.
  • Set Five: The set tied again at 12, but a Flames error and successful Phoenix attack gave Green Bay a 14-12 lead. A kill from Ali Witt put UIC within one, 14-13, but the Phoenix offense struck again to end it 15-13.
