Facing their first stretch of two games in three days, the UIC Flames (3-2) will venture south to take on in-state rival Bradley (3-3) less than 48 hours after playing Indiana State on Thursday. The Saturday afternoon contest in Peoria starts at 2:00 and marks the 23
rd renewal of the rivalry.
The Flames are looking to string together consecutive wins for the first time this season, following a home win over Indiana State Thursday.
Starting Five
- Taylor Toney bounced back from her lowest scoring game since her freshman year with a 12 point outing Thursday night. She has scored in double digits in four of the five games this season and leads the team with 15.8 points per game.
- Despite being limited to a season low 27 minutes by foul trouble, Gabryelle Johnson still scored 10 points against Indiana State to mark the second time this year she achieved double digits. She also had five rebounds to maintain her Horizon League-leading average at 9.0.
- The Flames are playing defense at a high level. They are ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 52.8 points per game. Their field goal percentage defense of .335 is good for 15th in the country.
- Catera Etheridge posted a season high 12 points against Indiana State Thursday.
- Gabryelle Johnson wasted no time in drawing a charge against the Sycamores. She took a charge just seven seconds into the game, extending her streak of inducing at least one offensive foul in every game of the season.
Last Time Out
- UIC got back in the win column by defeating Indiana State, 55-46 Thursday night.
- The Flames led by as many as 13 points, but Indiana State clawed back to within five late in the game. Clutch shooting and a team performance of 8-for-10 at the free throw line in the final minute ensured the victory.
- UIC put forth their best defensive effort of the season in holding the Sycamores to 27.9% shooting.
- Brittany Byrd was held scoreless in the first half, but started the second half with consecutive three pointers and finished the game with a game-high 17 points.
- Teodora Zagorac led everyone with 16 rebounds, representing a career high. She also dished out a career high six assists.
- Taylor Toney posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and gathering 10 rebounds.
Braves Briefs
- Bradley fell to 3-3 on the season with a 76-52 loss at Northern Illinois Wednesday. Chelsea Brackman had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Marsh was the Braves' top scorer with 16 points.
- A slow start doomed Bradley. They made just two of 15 field goals in the first quarter, and fell behind by 10 at the end of the period. Northern Illinois shot 43% from three point distance and made 20 of 26 free throws. Bradley was just 8-for-12 from the line.
- Bradley is a deep team, as 10 players have seen action in all six games and two more have played in five. That is reflected in the individual statistics, as no player is averaging more than 9.5 points per game, and only one Brave is above five rebounds per game (Chelsea Brackman, 7.2).
- The intrastate rivals will meet for the 23rd time today. Bradley leads the overall series, 15-7, but the Flames have won two of the last three meetings and five of the last nine. The teams have met in all but four seasons since the turn of the century.
- Bradley won last year's meeting in Chicago, 65-56. Gabryelle Johnson set her career high (tied this season) with 13 rebounds in that contest. Brittany Byrd had a team high 16 points.
