UIC junior midfielder Oscar Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) has been named to the Scholar All-Region Team by United Soccer Coaches for the North/Central region.

Gonzalez boasts a 3.4 overall GPA, and a 3.53 mark in the Spring 2017 semester, as a Sociology major.  Previously recognized for his school work as a two-time member of the Horizon League Honor Roll, this is Gonzalez' first All-Region academic award.  He is one of only two midfielders to make the team.

Gonzalez had one assist and registered 12 shots (five on goal) in the postseason as the Flames captured the Horizon League tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

This recognition is the latest in a line of postseason accolades for the Flames' leading goal scorer of 2017.  Gonzalez was honored as a third team All-Great Lakes Region performer, also by United Soccer Coaches.  He is one of only two Horizon League players chosen for the Scholar All-Region Team among a region that also includes schools from the Big Ten, Big East, Missouri Valley, and Mid-American Conferences.

Gonzalez led the Flames in shots and shots on goal.  He scored twice in the Horizon League match at IUPUI and earned the conference Offensive Player of the Week award.

United Soccer Coaches, formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), provides programs and services to help develop coaches and players at all levels of the game.
