Flames Clash With City Rival Loyola

UIC Puts Four Game Winning Streak On the Line

The UIC Flames (7-3) will renew their intracity rivalry with Loyola (1-9) in the final non-conference game of the season.  The 67th meeting between these two long standing rivals will tip off at noon Friday at Gentile Arena.

The Flames will look to extend their four game winning streak and exceed last season's total with their second road win of the campaign.  It is the team's first road game in 20 days, spanning four straight games at home.

Starting Five
  • Gabryelle Johnson had an excellent all around performance in UIC's comeback win over North Texas Monday.  She posted a career high 17 points, 12 rebounds, along with two steals and three charges drawn, two of which came during the Flames' second half comeback.  It was her second double-double of the season.
  • Brittany Byrd had her second straight 20-point game and her fifth of the season.  After a career high 29 in the previous contest, she scored 24 against North Texas including four free throws in the final 23 seconds.
  • Tylah Lampley scored a season high 10 points and dished out five assists, marking a new career high, on Monday.  She had six straight points as the Flames completed their comeback and took the lead in the fourth quarter.
  • With Taylor Toney scoring 10 points, it became the sixth game that saw at least three Flames score in double digits.  UIC is 5-1 in those games.
  • UIC has recorded two come-from-behind wins in which they trailed by at least 11 points.  Both rallies started with less than 3:30 to go in the third quarter.
Last Time Out
  • The Flames pulled off a double-digit comeback for the second time this season in a thrilling 70-67 win over North Texas.
  • The Flames' defense forced a turnover and an airball, desperation three pointer on the Mean Green's last two possessions.
  • UIC's rally from 11 points down with 3:24 to play in the third quarter against North Texas was engineered with shutdown defense.
  • The Flames held the Mean Green to just four field goals on 15 attempts in the fourth quarter and forced six turnovers in the final period, including on North Texas' second-to-last possession with the Flames leading by one.
  • North Texas shot 54% in the first half, made 6-of-13 threes, and had a 12:4 assist to turnover ratio.  After halftime, they went 0-for-5 from long range, and turned the ball over 14 times to just 8 assists.
Long Time Rivals
  • Today's game continues a long and storied series between two intra-city rivals.
  • The teams have met 66 times with Loyola owning a slim two game margin in the all-time series.  The Flames won six straight, their longest streak in the series, from 2005-2008, but the teams have split the last 12 meetings.
  • Loyola dropped their fourth straight game, 64-52 at Butler, Monday night.  The Ramblers went up by five points in the first half but trailed by seven at halftime.
  • Loyola would tie the game in the third quarter, and pull to within a point midway through the fourth, when a 7-0 Butler run put the Bulldogs up for good.
  • The Ramblers have played only three home games to date, and lost each of them, including two to Horizon League opponents Youngstown State and Green Bay.
  • No player is averaging 10 points, though Jessica Cerda leads a trio of Ramblers between 8 and 9.9 points per contest.  The team is being outrebounded by 6.6 boards per game, and has a -5.9 turnover margin.
