CHICAGO – A pair of foes from Chicago will meet up Thursday in the city's Washington Park neighborhood as the UIC women's tennis team (1-1) hosts Chicago State (2-3) at XS Tennis at 10 a.m. CT.
The Flames are coming off a 6-1 loss at Marquette last Saturday (Jan. 28).
Rachel Le Comber was able to come away with the lone win of the match for UIC with a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles.
Through two dual matches this season, the Flames have acquired six singles wins. Le Comber paces the team with a 2-0 record as
Oana Manole,
Georgie Sanders,
Bianca Zuzu and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon have additionally contributed to the total. In doubles, the team has been credited with one victory by way of Le Comber and
Stefana Vasic.
Chicago State heads into the match after falling to Northwestern, Akron and Toledo after posting wins against Minnesota Duluth and Elmhurst College during the fall. Mariya Kostyuk leads the Cougars with three singles wins while competing at the top two singles positions, as three tandems have contributed to six doubles victories.
UIC possesses a 10-5 record in the all-time series with Chicago State. The last time the two teams met was in 2011 when the Flames posted a 4-0 victory.
