Flames Finish Road Swing Sunday at Oakland

UIC is seeking eighth win in Horizon League play

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Fresh off a five-point road win at Detroit Mercy on Friday night, UIC will be right back in action on Sunday afternoon when the Flames face the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on the Blacktop at the O'rena at 2 p.m. CT.

The Flames (14-13, 7-7 Horizon League) and Golden Grizzlies (20-7, 10-4 Horizon League) engaged in a defensive slugfest when they met at the UIC Plion on Jan. 8. UIC led that affair by six at the break, but it was held to only six field goals in the second half as OU roared back to snag a one-point victory, 58-57. It was the lowest point total of the year for the Flames, and the second lowest for the normally high-scoring Golden Grizzlies. Tarkus Ferguson notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Tai Odiase accomplished the feat with 10 points and a game-high 13 boards. In the sixth consecutive game that was decided by five points or fewer for the Flames, UIC began the road trip on Friday night with a 74-69 victory over Detroit Mercy. The squad knocked down 10 3-pointers, marking the fourth time in the last five games in which it reached double digits. The Flames also got it done on the defensive end with a season-high 12 blocks. That was one shy of the school record which was set against Northeastern Illinois on Jan. 16, 1993. In two games against the Titans this season, UIC rejected 23 shots with Odiase accounting for 13 of the swats. For a full recap of the triumph over the Detroit Mercy, please click here.

Friday's game was the fourth road win against Horizon League competition this season, which is the most since the 2008-09 season. One of those wins came at Youngstown State in the Horizon League Tournament. This is the first time UIC has accomplished the feat during the regular season since the 2005-06 season. The team's seven wins overall in conference play match the best output since the 2012-13 season.
