CHICAGO – The UIC women's gymnastics team will battle Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the UIC Pavilion. Sunday's meet will be a co-ed meet alongside the men's squad, as they face Nebraska.
The Flames are coming off their best performance of the season on Sunday, when they took down Big Ten Rutgers 194.275-194.200. UIC recorded its highest event score of the season on floor (48.975) in the final rotation to clinch the win, while compiling its highest team total since March 21, 2015.
Midwest Independent Conference rankings have UIC in fourth at the week seven mark, with Lindenwood, Texas Woman's and Illinois State holding the top three spots. The Flames continue to lead the Conference on bars as a team, averaging 48.486 on the season.
Individually, sophomore
Mikailla Northern is tied for third in all-around standings (38.746 avg.) after matching her career-high 39.075 all-around total on Sunday against Rutgers. Northern is also tied for fourth in the Conference on vault (9.754) and is tied for fifth on beam (9.614). Fellow sophomore
Jenna Squillo is tied for sixth in the MIC on bars (9.714), while junior
Katie Snyder sits tenth on the event (9.686).
Western Michigan posted its ninth-highest team score in program history on Sunday, a 195.475 in a quad meet featuring Texas Woman's Penn State and Sacramento State. Bronco senior Jessie Peszek earned a 9.925 on bars to take the event title in addition to setting a new program record, while also scoring the third-highest beam total (9.900) in program history.
The Flames faced Western Michigan twice last season, and will do so again this season, when they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. on March 7 for a rematch of weekend's tilt.
