CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (2-1) will make the trek to Kalamazoo, Mich., as it is set to go head-to-head with Western Michigan (3-2) on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Flames will carry over momentum following a 6-1 victory over Chicago State on Thursday (Feb. 2). The team captured its first doubles point of the season and went on to take five singles matches by way of
Oana Manole,
Melika LeBlanc,
Bianca Zuzu,
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon and
Rachel Le Comber.
Through three dual matches this season, UIC owns three doubles wins from the tandems of Le Comber and
Stefana Vasic (2) and Manole and Rodriguez Diaz de Leon.
In singles, Le Comber paces the team with a perfect 3-0 record while at No. 6, as Manole (No. 1), Zuzu (No. 4) and Rodriguez Diaz de Leon (No. 5) each have added two wins.
Western Michigan has had a full slate early on and has taken wins over Oakland, Valparaiso and IUPUI. The Broncos are set to face Cleveland State on Friday in Ohio prior to Sunday's matchup.
WMU has used six combinations in doubles so far to assist in its eight victories, three of which are owned by Denise Azcui and Olivia Myers at No. 2. A total of 17 wins have come in singles as Azcui, Barbare Eristavi, Tracy Kuhle and Melina Lyubomirova have made up 12 of the victories with three each.
In the all-time series, the Flames hold a 2-13 record against the Broncos, with their last win coming in a 4-3 final in 2013. Last season, the two teams met in Chicago where WMU took a 5-2 win.
