CHICAGO – The UIC women's gymnastics team posted its highest team total of the season Sunday afternoon against Eastern Michigan, recording a 193.325. The Flames compiled their highest team total since March 15, 2015, despite falling 194.550-193.325.
The Flames started strong on vault, registering a season-best team score of 48.450. Northern paced UIC with a career-high 9.825 to take the event title.
Riley Mahoney landed in sixth with a personal-best 9.725, followed by
Toni Alicke in eighth with a season-high 9.675.
On bars, the Flames continued their success with another season-high 48.900 event total.
Katie Snyder and Northern tied for second place with a 9.825, a career-high for both gymnasts.
Jenna Squillo brought in a season-high 9.750 on the event, while
Serena Baker also earned a season-best 9.750.
"It was very exciting to have that start on vault," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. "It set us up in much better position than our first couple of meets. Bars has become one of our strongest events, so I was glad we got the season high on that."
UIC moved on to beam, where Squillo led for the Flames with a season-high 9.750 to tie for third.
Daniela Maciel took sixth on the event with a 9.625, while
Nikki Woodruff and Northern tied for seventh with a 9.575.
Maciel led for UIC on floor with a season-high 9.750, good for second place. Woodruff followed in third with a season-high 9.725, while
Abby Hasanov earned a season-best 9.700 to round out the top five.
"We hit some good routines on beam, so I was happy how that turned out," Jansson said. "On floor we thought we would have six good routines, but that was the one that hurt us. But it was a season-high for the team, which we're really excited about, and I'm happy that we competed really well with the top team in the MAC."
The Flames will be back on the road next weekend, facing Iowa and Illinois in a tri-meet hosted by Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 11.
