CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (7-4) will make its way to the Music City this weekend for a pair of matches against Lipscomb (4-10) and Butler (3-11) at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center. The Flames will open play Saturday against the Bisons at 2 p.m. CT and will cap their stay Sunday with a 9 a.m. match against the Bulldogs.
UIC will enter into competition having last faced Niagara on March 9 and coming away with a 6-1 victory at XS Tennis. The Flames swept doubles and allowed just one point across the three matches before they moved on to take No. 2-6 singles in straight sets as
Rachel Le Comber,
Melika LeBlanc,
Bianca Zuzu and
Stefana Vasic all turned out wins in both doubles and singles.
The Flames have put together 31 wins in singles this season led by seven from Le Comber, while Zuzu (6), LeBlanc (5) and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon (5) follow with their totals. The team has tabbed 14 victories in doubles with the tandems of Le Comber/LeBlanc (4) and
Georgie Sanders/Vasic (3) proving to be most effective.
Lipscomb will cap a stretch of four matches in four days with UIC after hosting SEMO, Missouri State and Butler. Of the Bisons wins this season, each have been in close decisions as they have edged by Belmont, 4-3, Appalachian State, 4-3, Arkansas State, 4-1, and Missouri State, 4-2. Saturday's match will be the first-ever meeting between UIC and Lipscomb.
Following a 7-0 loss to Ball State on Wednesday, Butler heads south to take on Lipscomb and Western Kentucky prior to Sunday's match with the Flames. The Bulldogs have come away with three wins so far against Indiana Wesleyan, 6-1, Missouri State, 4-3, and Omaha, 4-1. As a former Horizon League foe, UIC holds a 32-2 record in the all-time series with Butler after taking a 6-1 victory at home last season.
