ROCKFORD, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team (6-3) nearly pulled off a sweep as it sailed past Northern Illinois (6-5) for a 6-1 win Friday at Boylan Tennis Center.

The Flames cleaned up with at all three doubles matches to go out ahead 1-0.
Georgie Sanders and
Stefana Vasic (No. 3) first took a 6-2 win before
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber (No. 1) and the new pairing of
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon and
Bianca Zuzu (No. 2) captured 6-4 victories.

With
Oana Manole out of the lineup, the six remaining Flames were tested at new positions and they were able to come away with five of the six matches, and four of them in straight sets.

Le Comber picked up the first victory while competing at No. 4 against Meghan Montgomerie, 6-3, 6-0, and LeBlanc then took a 6-1, 6-3 victory while at No. 2 against Abigail Dekkinga. The match was clinched for UIC at No. 5, where Rodriguez Diaz de Leon defeated Michelle Erasmus, 6-1, 6-2.

While Sanders fell at No. 1 to Raven Neely, 6-3, 6-2, Vasic extended her match and outlasted Abbie-Jade Riley, 2-6, 7-5, 10-6, at No. 6 and Zuzu captured the final match at No. 3 after taking down Brodie Walker, 7-5, 6-3.

The Flames are back on the courts Saturday as they compete for the first time at Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind., and host Akron at 10 a.m. CT.
