Christopher Root wrapped up his gymnastics career at the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association's Gymnastics Championships on Friday on the campus of Army West Point. The Cartersville, Ga. native notched a final score of 13.150 on parallel bars earning him the twenty-sixth spot.
Earlier in the season, Root was awarded ECAC Specialist of the Week on Feb. 14 after posting a trio of second place finishes against William & Mary (Feb. 11) on rings (13.600), parallel bars (13.150) and high bar (13.500).
He additionally earned a season and career best score of 13.700 on high bar versus Ohio State (Jan. 20), followed by another season and career high score on parallel bars after victoriously tallying a 14.100 at the Midwest Open (March 20).
As a freshman he earned Rookie of the Week after placing fourth with a 78.100 in his first all-around competition as a Flame; he grabbed a 13.200 on floor, 13.350 on pommel horse, 12.950 on rings, 13.800 on vault, 11.600 on p-bars and a 13.200 on high bar.
"It's a tough pill to swallow to know that I am done with a sport that has done so much for me," said Root. "I will miss being a gymnast."
