Flames Come Up Short against Milwaukee

UIC falls 76-53

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-10, 0-6 HL) took a 76-53 loss on Monday afternoon to Milwaukee (13-5, 4-2 HL) at home in the UIC Pavilion.

Taylor Toney continued her offensive success for the Flames, putting in a team-high 16 points. Tylah Lampley was also in double digits for the third time in four games, with 12 points.

First Half Highlights
  • UIC scored first off a jumper at the hands of Gabryelle Johnson, but Milwaukee took the next 11 before the Flames would score again.
  • The Panthers eventually extended their lead in the first quarter to ten, 16-6, with 11 of those points taken from UIC turnovers.
  • The Flames were able to turn things around and go on a 6-0 run to make the deficit more manageable, 16-12, with jumpers from Taylor Toney and Tylah Lampley.
  • Milwaukee put in a triple, their third of the quarter, and Toney put in another bucket for UIC to end the quarter with eight points. The first ten minutes ended with a 21-14 advantage for the visitors.
  • The second quarter started with the Flames hot, forcing three turnovers in the first three minutes. Lampley and Toney shouldered the scoring at the start, combining for eight points in those first few minutes to put UIC within one possession, 25-22.
  • The Flames offense stuttered, and almost three minutes without a basket put the visitors once again up by 10, 32-22. Catera Etheridge came up with a big three to reignite the offense, 32-25.
  • Toney thieved the ball and ran in back for two to put the Flames five away, 34-29, and the Panthers responded with another four to recreate the gap, 38-29.
  • Etheridge put up another three, while Brittany Byrd joined her, putting in her first triple of the afternoon, to put the Flames down by just four at the end of the first half, 40-36.
Second Half Highlights
  • Milwaukee drew first blood in the second half and went on to put up 10 unanswered points, while the Flames were scoreless for almost five minutes until Gabryelle Johnson rebounded a missed shot for a layup to get UIC on the board, 50-38.
  • The Flames ended the third quarter shooting just 20 percent, while only adding seven points to face a 57-43 hole after 30 minutes of play.
  • Milwaukee's lead grew to 25 (74-49) in the fourth period after the Panthers put up 13 points to UIC's two in the middle minutes of the frame.
  • In the final two minutes, Jada Nneji entered the game and put in the first basket for the Flames in over three minutes, and Lampley was able to draw a foul and put in two at the line, but UIC ended the game with a 23-point loss, 76-53.
