Flames Prep for Road Matchup against Northern Kentucky

UIC seeking first Horizon League win

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-11, 0-7 HL) continues its five-game road trip, as they travel to Highland Heights, Ky. for a matchup with the Norse of Northern Kentucky (4-14, 2-5 HL).

The Flames are on the hunt for their first Horizon League win of the season, and are also looking to end a winless draught on the road dating back to Nov. 21. UIC was victorious in the last meeting between the two teams, defeating the Norse 72-60 in the Horizon League Quarterfinals last season.

Starting Five
  • Brittany Byrd led UIC offensively on Friday (Jan. 19) against Wright State, with 16 points. The junior also notched eight rebounds. Byrd is fourth in the League in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game
  • Taylor Toney was just one point and one rebound shy of a double-double at Wright State, recording nine points and nine boards. The junior also blocked a career-high four against the Raiders. Toney is ninth in the Horizon League in scoring with a 13.9 points per game average.
  • Tylah Lampley was in double figures for the fourth time in five games with 12 points at Wright State.
  • The Flames are second in the Horizon League in offensive rebounds, and they average 15.3 offensive boards per game. The rebound front is led by Gabryelle Johnson, who is second in the League in offensive rebounds with a 3.6 per game average.
  • UIC is third in the Horizon League in blocked shots, averaging 3.7 blocks per game. Lampley is third in the conference in blocks and leads the Flames, averaging 1.2 no-nos per game.
Last Time Out
  • UIC took a tough 60-50 loss to Wright State on Friday at the Nutter Center.
  • The Flames led until the final minute of the third quarter, where they struggled offensively, producing just seven points.
  • UIC also committed seven turnovers and seven fouls in that quarter that also contributed to the deficit.
  • The Flames outshot the Raiders, making 36.5 percent of all shots to Wright State's 32.2 percent.
  • The Raiders shot just 11.8 percent (2-for-17) from the three-point line, an opponent season low for the Flames.
Notes on the Norse
  • The Norse have lost their last four, follwing a 71-35 loss to IUPUI on Friday (Jan. 19).
  • Molly Click and Kailey Coffey each put in seven points and five rebounds for the Norse, to lead in both catgories.
  • Northern Kentucky ended the game shooting just 23 percent of all shots, while the Jaguars poured in 50 percent from the floor.
  • The Norse forced 14 turnovers in that game, six of which came off steals.
  • The Norse are fourth in the League in free throw percentage (71.2 percent), field goal defense percentage (38.7 percent) and rebounding defense (33.2 average per game). Northern Kentucky is also fourth in offensive rebounds, averaging 12.9 offensive boards per game.
  • The Norse's leader in assist, Mikayla Terry, averages 3.0 assists per game, ranking her sixth in the Horizon League.
  • Molly Glick leads the scoring front for Northern kentucky, and she ranks 15th in the confernce with a 12.4 points per game average.
