CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (14-8, 7-2 HL) took home its fifth-straight win on Friday evening with a 3-1 (25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18) victory over Wright State (11-10, 3-6 HL). The Flames finished with their second-highest team attack percentage of the season at .294, out-killing the Raiders 65-50.
Match Highlights
- Set One: The Flames took a commanding 13-4 lead after an early 8-0 run. UIC dominated from there, taking set one definitively, 25-12.
- Set One: The Flames out-killed the Raiders in set one, 18-6. Kiera James, Paola Santiago and Clara Lamb each tallied four kills for the Flames.
- Set Two: Tied at 11, UIC went on a 6-1 run to take a 17-12 lead.
- Set Two: The Flames led by seven, 22-17, when Wright State rattled off two kills and ace to come within four, 22-18, but that is as close as they would get as the Flames finished set two with a 25-21 victory.
- Set Three: Trailing by five, 11-6, the Flames took four in-a-row to come within one, 11-10.
- Set Three: The Raiders still had a one-point lead, 12-11, but after a five-point streak the lead grew to six, 17-11.
- Set Three: A late five-point surge for the Flames landed them once again within one, 24-23, but the Raiders ended the set on the next point with a kill, 25-23.
- Set Four: Wright State grabbed the first three points of set four, but the Flames took the next eight, 8-3.
- Set Four: Wright State later came within one after a three-point streak, 14-13, but kills from Paola Santiago and James gave the Flames some room, 16-13. Following a UIC service error, the Flames took the next four, 20-14.
- Set Four: The two teams traded points back-and-forth until the Flames reached match point, 24-18. A Wright State attack error gave UIC all it needed, 25-18.
Facts & Figures
- For the fourth-straight match, Kiera James eclipsed the 20-kill mark, tallying 25 kills for the Flames.
- Paola Santiago killed 14 for her seventh-straight double-digit kill effort. Santiago ended the night two-digs shy of a double-double, recording eight scoops.
- Ali Witt and Clara Lamb contributed nine kills apiece.
- Manuela Conte led UIC with 19 digs on defense, followed by Velina Minkova with 11.
- Witt led the way at the net, recording six blocks, as the Flames out-blocked the Raiders 10-9.
- Tatyana Ndekwe blocked four in addition to six kills.
