UIC faces second city rival in three days

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (1-1) return home for its second city rival matchup in a three-day span as they welcome Loyola to the newly named Credit Union 1 Arena on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:12 p.m. CT.

Starting Five
  • Senior Brittany Byrd is averaging 19.5 points through UIC's first two games to defend her role as the Flames' leading scorer.
  • Taylor Toney led the Flames in both points (12) and rebounds (6) Thursday night against Northwestern.
  • Byrd and Toney are the only Flames to post double-digit efforts in the first two games. They traded off as leading rebounder, as Byrd (9) led against Valpo and Toney (6) led against Northwestern.
  • Kara Wilson and Jada Nneji made the first starts of their careers on Thursday. Wilson posted a career-high seven points and a personal-best five assists, and Nneji ended the night with two points, three rebounds and two steals.
  • UIC's three newcomers: Christelle Nyauchi, Tatum McCall and Jasmine Gaines have been contributing early on. Nyauchi and Gaines are averaging 3.0 points through the first two games, while McCall is averaging 2.5 points.
Last Time Out
  • UIC was dealt an 87-44 loss to Northwestern on Thursday night.
  • The Flames were held to just 31.6 percent from the field, while the home team shot 50.7 percent on the night.
  • The Wildcats also put up 46 rebounds to UIC's 28, and racked up an impressive 29 points off the fast break
WHAT'S AT STAKE

  • Win its first game against Loyola since 2014
  • Improve to one game over .500
RAMBLER WRAP-UP
  • The Ramblers mirror the Flames' 1-1 record after a 52-43 comeback win over Horizon League member Detroit Mercy on Monday.
  • Loyola erased an early double-digit deficit with a fourth-quarter surge to tally its first win of the season.
  • Tiara Wallace, Ellie Rice and Allison Day all average 10.5 points per game to lead the Rambler offense, while Abby O'Connor leads the way on the boards with a 6.5 rebounds per game average.
  • The Flames just missed the Ramblers in the last meeting between the two teams, falling by just one bucket, 56-55 on Dec. 22, 2017.
