CHICAGO -- UIC turned up its defensive pressure in the second half and that translated to easy baskets as the Flames pulled away from Parkside Saturday, 94-74. UIC trailed by as many as six with 12:46 to go, but the home outscored the Rangers in the second half, 55-37, to gain control and a third straight win.
Marcus Ottey led the way with 20 points, while
Godwin Boahen buried a career-high five 3-pointers to add 19.
Rob Howard and
Jacob Wiley provided big boosts off the bench with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
First-Half Highlights
- Everyone is Open: UIC hit nearly everything in the early going, especially from 3-point range. The Flames made seven of their first eight 3-point attempts en route to establishing a 15-point lead less than seven minutes into the game at 25-10. Four different UIC connecting from distance in the early going with Boahen and Jamie Ahale knocking down multiple triples early on.
- Lid on the Basket: After netting 25 points in the first 6:28, UIC managed to score only 14 during the remainder of the first half. The Flames went more than seven minutes without a field goal while Parkside trimmed the deficit down to six points. Wiley ended the drought with a fast-break layup with 5:32 left in the period.
- Ranger Lead: Parkside pushed ahead and the pesky Rangers eventually secured a one-point lead, 35-34, with about 44 seconds to go on a steal and a layup. Tarkus Ferguson found Howard for a two-handed dunk to put UIC back in the lead, but Parkside clawed in front with a layup. Ultimately Boahen beat the buzzer with his fourth 3-pointer of the half to put the Flames in front at the break, 39-37.

- Parkside's Punch: The Rangers came out swinging to start the second half and built a six-point lead with a pair of free throws at the 12:46 mark.
- Flames Fire Back: UIC turned up the pressure on the defensive end and it began to translate to easy baskets. After Ottey pulled the Flames within two, Michael Diggins registered a steal in the backcourt and laid the ball up and in to tie the game at 60-60 with 10:12 remaining. UIC would never again trail. The second-half lead reached as many as 22 points before the Flames sealed a 94-74 victory.

- UIC shot a season-high 60 percent (36-of-60) from the field Saturday. It was the first time the Flames connected at such a prolific clip since shooting 61 percent at Milwaukee on Feb. 4, 2017.
- The Flames scored 24 points off 14 Parkside turnovers. Conversely, the Rangers only mustered eight points off of 11 UIC miscues.
- UIC made 11 3-pointers as a team, connecting at 52.4 percent from beyond the arc. It was the second time this season that the Flames hit at least 50 percent of their shots from 3-point range (53.8 percent at Duquesne).
- Godwin Boahen made a career-high five 3-pointers, converting on his first five attempts from downtown Saturday. The junior is shooting 53 percent (9-of-17) from 3-point range over the last two games.
- Jacob Wiley scored a career-high 10 points in just 12:56 of action against Parkside. The sophomore also hauled in a career-high seven rebounds and was +15 for the game.
- Marcus Ottey scored a game-high 20 points, also his high mark for the season. It was the seventh time in his career that he reached at least 20 points.
- UIC's bench produced a season-high 38 points. Wiley (10) and Rob Howard (15) combined for 65.8 percent of the second unit's production.
- Ralph Bissainthe scored his first point in a UIC uniform with a first-half free throw Saturday.

- UIC will hit the road for the fourth time this season on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when it will travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's at 6 p.m. CT.
