CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (1-3) will wrap up its two-game road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 27 as they face Eastern Michigan (2-1) at 10 a.m. CT inside the Convocation Center. The Flames are seeking their first win since their opener against Valparaiso on Nov. 7.
Starting Five
- Brittany Byrd and Taylor Toney continue to put themselves at the top of the stats lists for the Flames, as duo makes up UIC's top two in make up the top two in points, attempts, makes and rebounds.
- Sophomores Kara Wilson and Jada Nneji have appeared in UIC's starting lineup in the last three contests, making the first starts of their respective careers. Wilson has been stepping up in creating opportunities for the Flames, leading the squad in assists with an average of 3.3 assists per contest.
- Kiarra Thompson has also been a contributor off the bench, averaging 4.3 points per game through the first four, including two career-high six-point performances against Valpo and Marquette. On Saturday against Marquette, Thompon's career high-matching six points led the squad, and she also brought in three rebounds and two assists, both of which were also personal-bests.
- Jasmine Gaines is the only newcomer to make an appearance in every starting lineup so far, and has put up points in every contest as well. On Saturday at Marquette, the freshman contributed two points and tied her personal-best three rebounds.
- The Flames have been excelling beyond the arc, shooting 30 percent so far. UIC has shot 40 percent or better in three-point range in two of its first three contests, and has held opponents to just under 30 percent. The Flames made 52.9 percent of shots taken beyond the arc on Nov. 17 against the Ramblers, their highest percentage since last season against Northern Kentucky (Feb. 23), when the Flames sank 66.7 percent of their threes.
Last Time Out
- The Flames were put to the test by No. 22 Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 24, falling 96-32.
- The Flames were kept in the single digits in three out of four quarters against the Big East favorites, making just 18.2 percent of all shots.
- Kiarra Thompson's six points led the squad. Tylah Lampley and Taylor Toney followed with five apiece.
- Marquette had four players in double figures, led by Amani Wilborn's 18-point show.
Scouting Eastern Michigan
- The Eagles are off to a 2-1 start after taking their first loss of the season on Wednesday (Nov. 21) to Iowa State.
- Eastern Michigan's offense is led by Courtnie Lewis, averaging 17.7 ppg. Corrione Cardwell also averages in the double digits, scoring 15.7 ppg on average.
- Danielle Minott leads the squad in rebounds, averaging 9.0 boards per game. Lewis is also the Eagles' top shooter, sinking 50 percent of her shots taken (19-of-38).
- Last year against the Eagles, UIC boasted a 73-70 comeback win, scoring 31 points in the fourth quarter to erase a nine-point deficit entering the last 10 minutes of play.
- The Flames buried 12 three pointers as a team and shot 93 percent from the free throw line in the come-from-behind victory.
