This weekend will be a very special one for the entire Flames Family. There will be a full day of basketball at Credit Union 1 Arena on December 1, beginning at
11 a.m., when Coach
Tasha Pointer's women's basketball team hosts Miami (Ohio). Later, Coach
Steve McClain and the men's squad welcome crosstown rival Loyola to our house at
3:12 p.m. It's the first visit by a men's basketball Final Four team to UIC's campus since 2012. And fans don't need to worry about how to fill the time in between games, because there will be a FREE tailgate with food and drink in the parking lot across the street at the corner of Racine and Harrison from
1:00-2:30 p.m.
Tickets for the men's game are available for just $10 by using the offer code STAFF10 at
Ticketmaster.
The theme for the day is Beach Party. The first 1,000 UIC students to arrive at the men's game will receive a free beach towel with the hot new court design. The game will offer a welcome break from the cold, snowy Chicago weather with beach themed contests, music, and game presentation elements. All fans are encouraged to wear their best UIC gear and help pack the house. Cheer loud, be the sixth man, and support the Flames against last season's Final Four squad from across town!
The full day of festivities will celebrate the official grand opening of Credit Union 1 Arena. Earlier this month longtime UIC partner Credit Union 1 secured the naming rights to the UIC Pavilion, pending approval of the Board of Trustees. The company has made a commitment of more than $9 million over 15 years to benefit every single person associated with the University. In addition to the naming rights, Credit Union 1 will be giving $750,000 toward scholarships at UIC. This is a significant and unprecedented investment in the future of UIC, and a reinforced pledge to each student-athlete and the department's sustained success. A ceremony will be held at the arena Friday afternoon, hosted by UIC Chancellor
Michael Amiridis, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs J. Rex Tolliver, and Director of Athletics
Garrett Klassy. Officers and dignitaries from Credit Union 1 will also be on hand.
