CHICAGO -- UIC continues its season opening three-game road trip Friday with a late-night tilt at Radford. The Flames and Highlanders will tip-off at the Dedmon Center in a Gotham Classic clash at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
UIC (0-1) opened the season on Tuesday night with a tough test at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish went to the free throw line 38 times and converted 36 chances, while adding 24 second-chance points on 18 offensive rebounds to pull away with an 84-67 victory.
Marcus Ottey led the Flames with 17 points in defeat, while
Tarkus Ferguson (12),
Jordan Blount (12) and
Godwin Boahen (10) also scored in double figures. Ferguson and
Jacob Wiley each pulled down six rebounds with Wiley matching a career high in that category.
Radford (1-0) also opened its campaign Tuesday by hosting NCAA Division II foe Davis & Elkins. The Highlanders canned 18 3-pointers and shot 54.5 percent from beyond the arc to cruise to a comfortable 34-point win. Three players scored at least 18 points for the Highlanders, including Preseason All-Big South Conference First Team selection
Ed Polite, Jr. He added 12 rebounds to go along with 18 points.
While the Flames are seeking their first victory of the young season, they are also striving to help head coach
Steve McClain reach a milestone in his career. McClain owns 199 career victories as a Division I head coach with stops at Wyoming and UIC. He would join
Jimmy Collins as the only two coaches in program history with at least 200 wins at the Division I level.
