Flames Close Home Slate with Sweep of Panthers

UIC finishes with a 9-2 mark at home

CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (17-11, 10-5 HL) finished out its home schedule on Thursday evening with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13) sweep of Milwaukee (8-20, 7-8 HL). The Flames finished the season with an impressive 9-2 mark at home, and now look ahead to the final match of the regular season on Saturday at Green Bay.

Match Highlights
  • Set One: The Flames came out swinging, taking the first five points of the match off four kills and a Milwaukee error. UIC's lead grew, 13-7, but the Panthers were able to regroup and tie the set at 16.
  • Set One: The Panthers took three of the next four following a UIC timeout to take the lead, 19-17. UIC pulled ahead once more after a 3-0 streak, 22-21.
  • Set One: The Flames were able to keep the Panthers at bay from that point, taking the set 25-23 after a kill from Ali Witt.
  • Set Two: Set two started similarly to set one, as the Flames went up 5-1 early. The Panthers were able to reduce the lead to two, 19-17, before UIC scored three straight for a five-point advantage, 22-17.
  • Set Two: Milwaukee once again came within a pair after a 3-0 streak of their own, 22-20, but the Flames used another three unanswered points to end the set, 25-20.
  • Set Three: The Flames started set three up 9-3, and never allowed the Panthers to come close, eventually doubling up on Milwaukee, 22-11.
Facts & Figures
  • Kiera James led the way for UIC's offense with 13 kills, her 14th double-digit kill performance.
  • Ali Witt had a strong showing with 12 kills and five total blocks. Witt led all attackers with a .455 (12k-2e-22a) hitting percentage.
  • Michelle Glover set a new personal best with seven kills. The freshman also recorded four blocks for the Flames.
  • Paola Santiago killed five, while Clara Lamb killed four. Lamb matched Witt with five total blocks on the night.
  • Marija Borcic brought home her 14 double-double of the season with 41 assists and 10 digs. The freshman also chipped in three blocks.
  • The Flames out-blocked the Panthers 10-4. The Flames also put up 47 kills to Milwaukee's 39. UIC also recorded more digs, 62-52.
