UIC Ventures to Green Bay for Final Road Test

Flames have won six consecutive road games entering Friday's contest

CHICAGO -- UIC will look to keep its record away from home in 2018 unblemished when the Flames hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Friday, Feb. 16 at Green Bay. The Flames have won six consecutive road games and 10 of 12 contests overall since Jan. 4, 2018.

The Flames (15-12, 10-4 Horizon League) will look to get back in the win column on Friday night after seeing a seven-game winning streak come to an end last time out against Cleveland State. UIC fell behind by 10 points at the half, and despite a furious rally, fell to the Vikings, 86-78. Five Flames scored in double figures with Marcus Ottey leading the way with 14 points and Dominique Matthews (13) and Godwin Boahen (11) combining to net 24 points off the bench.

Green Bay (10-18, 5-10 Horizon League) is hoping to snap a three-game slide of its. All 10 Phoenix wins this season, including five in #HLMBB play, have come at home. Home for Green Bay is usually the Resch Center, however Friday's game will be played on campus at the Kress Events Center. It is only the third time the men's team has played in the on-campus gym, and the first against an Horizon League foe.

STARTING FIVE
  • UIC has won six consecutive road games games, and 10 of 12 overall, since Jan. 4 at IUPUI.
  • UIC's recent seven-game winning streak was its longest since the 2012-13 season (8).
  • It marked the program's longest streak in #HLMBB play since 2003-04 (11).
  • The Flames (10-4) have achieved their best 14-game record in conference play since the 1997-98 team in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (12-2).
  • UIC has swept the regular-season series against IUPUI, Milwaukee, Detroit Mercy and Youngstown State.
A WIN AT GREEN BAY WOULD GIVE UIC...
  • Its 11th Horizon League victory of the year, most since 2003-2004 (12).
  • The first win in Green Bay since Feb. 18, 2004, and the first regular-season sweep of the Phoenix since the 2003-04 season.
  • Seven consecutive road wins for the first time since Jan. 26 - March 9, 2004.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE PHOENIX
  • UIC shot a season-high 58.2 percent from the field to breeze past the Green Bay Phoenix on Jan. 10, 84-73.
  • Sophomores Dikembe Dixson, Godwin Boahen and Marcus Ottey combined to go 8-of-10 from downtown on the night.
  • The Flames never trailed, and led by as many as 25 points, against Green Bay.
UNDERCLASS ACHIEVERS
  • UIC is one of six NCAA programs to begin the season with three or fewer upperclassmen.
  • The five other teams are: Kentucky (2), North Florida (2), Chattanooga (3), The Citadel (3) and George Mason (3).
  • UIC has two seniors in Tai Odiase and Clint Robinson, and one junior in Naradain James.
  • Underclassmen have provided 79.8 percent (4,331/5,425) of the team's overall minutes and 81.2 percent (2,273/2,800) in League play.
YOUTH STILL SERVED
  • Out of 351 Division I teams, UIC ranked as the least experienced in the country in 2016-17 according to KenPom.com.
  • The Flames boasted an average of 0.67 years of Divison I playing experience last season.
  • Through 27 games this year, the Flames still rank as the youngest team in the Horizon League, and 287th in NCAA, with 1.32 years of experience.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
  • Green Bay enters Friday's meeting with a record of 10-18 and a 5-10 mark in Horizon League play. All five conference victories have come at home.
  • The Phoenix is one of the nation's top rebounding teams. Green Bay leads the Horizon League and ranks 14th nationally with 1,067 boards. It is second (behind UIC) in the conference in rebounds per game (38.1).
  • Senior Khalil Small, who will celebrate his final home game along with teammate David Jesperson Friday, ranks fourth in the Horizon League with 17.6 points per game. He scored a game-high 27 in the first meeting with the Flames on Jan. 10.
