Continuing to earn their status as road warriors, the UIC women's gymnastics team will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Sunday for a Midwest Independent Conference dual meet with Southeast Missouri State. Following last week's home opener, the battle with the Redhawks is part of a stretch that will send the Flames away from the Windy City for seven of their first eight meets.
Through the Rotations
- The Flames are atop the MIC standings in the bars and the team all-around.
- Mikailla Northern has the Flames' highest score of the season on three of four apparatuses (all but the vault). She leads the conference in the individual all-around standings.
- Serena Baker has been the conference's top performer on the bars.
- Ashley Albrecht, fresh off season highs on the vault and the all-around, is the MIC's reigning Newcomer of the Week. It's the second time in three weeks that she has won the award.
Last Time Out
- Along with Albrecht's season highs, fellow freshman Kayla Baddeley collected two third place finishes and one fourth place result.
- Northern fell just shy of the 39 point plateau in the all-around, finishing with 38.900 in the Flames' loss to Northern Illinois.
- The Flames posted their highest score of the season on the vault, 48.725, led by Northern, Baddeley, and Albrecht each scoring 9.750 or higher.
- Toni Alicke improved her floor score for the second straight meet, logging a season high 9.775.
Scouting Southeast Missouri State
- SEMO scored a season-best 48.375 on the bars in a loss to Western Michigan last Friday.
- Alexis Brawner won the vault and floor competitions. She owns the Redhawks' highest scores on all three of her events (vault, bars, and floor).
- Brawner and McKinzie Jones rank second and third respectively in the MIC floor exercise standings.
- Though the Flames and SEMO battle annually in the MIC Championships, the teams have not met in a dual meet since 2015. UIC won that encounter, 193.625-191.800, at UIC Pavilion.
- The Flames also scored higher than the Redhawks in a quad meet at Denver with Iowa in 2016.
