Flames Defeat SEMO With Solid All Around Performance

Consistency Across Rotations Gives UIC the Dual Meet Win

Mikailla Northern won the all-around competition and was in the top two on three apparatuses, as UIC came away with their first dual meet win of the season, a 193.625-191.325 decision over Southeast Missouri State on Sunday afternoon.  The Flames outscored SEMO on three apparatuses, and tied on the fourth, and had two individual event champions.

"We had a solid team performance today," co-head coach Peter Jansson said.  "Tighter than usual judging kept the scores down somewhat, but the team continues to compete better and better.  We started out with a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes on bars but after that, it was smooth sailing with lots of great performances."

Rotation 1 – Bars
  • Toni Alicke paced UIC with a first place performance worth 9.800.  It was the third time this season that she had the team's highest score.
  • Ashley Albrecht and Mikailla Northern each posted a 9.750.  They tied for second.
  • Riley Cholod was right behind them with a 9.725, in a tie for fourth.
Rotation 2 – Vault
  • Northern earned her second, second-place finish of the meet with a 9.775.
  • Albrecht's 9.750 tied her season high and was good for third place.
  • Serena Baker, competing on vault for just the second time in her career, improved upon her vault debut last week and contributed to the team score.
  • Only two of SEMO's vaulters scored higher than UIC's lowest counting score.  After two rotations, the Flames led by 2.200 points.
Rotation 3 – Floor
  • Abby Hasanov's 9.775 was her season high.  She tied for second place.
  • Kayla Baddeley and Northern each scored 9.750, right behind Hasanov in a fourth place tie.
  • Dani Maciel tied a season high with a 9.700.  Alicke also met that mark, giving the Flames a season high-tying 48.675 on the floor.
Rotation 4 – Beam
  • Northern was the event champion, scoring 9.775.
  • Baddeley tied for second with a 9.700.
  • Riley Mahoney gave the Flames a third top score, posting a 9.650.
All-Around
  • Northern broke 39 points for the second time this season, and recorded her first all-around win with 39.050 points.
  • Albrecht was third with a total of 38.425.
Up Next

  • The meet will begin at 2:00 pm.
  • It will conclude a stretch of seven out of eight meets on the road.
