Flames Outlasted by Loyola, 1-0

UIC held to just five hits

CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (13-13) was unable to get the job done against crosstown rival Loyola (15-12) Wednesday afternoon. The Flames had a handful of good opportunities, but were unable to capitalize with timely offense to bring a runner across the dish, resulting in a 1-0 loss.

Game Highlights
  • Loyola's Shannon McGee led off with a double in the Ramblers' half of the third inning, and the next two batters produced a pop up and a ground out to give UIC two outs. Allyson Ivey made contact for another double for the Ramblers, bringing in the game's first run before the Flames got out of the inning with an infield pop up.
  • The Flames had a good look in the top of the fourth, as Alyssa Griman laid a single down the left field line with one out. Following a strikeout, Kayla Wedl singled and stole second to put runners on second and third, but another strikeout ended the inning for UIC.
  • UIC had another good opportunity to score in the fifth, beginning with a leadoff walk for Ria Smith. The next two Flames went down by way of a ground out and a strikeout, but then a Loyola error gave Taylor Cairns first base and allowed Smith to advance to third. Cairns stole second, once again putting two runners in scoring position, but a fly out closed the opportunity for the Flames.
Facts and Figures
  • UIC was held to just five hits, led by Alyssa Griman's 2-for-3 performance. Griman was the sole Flame to record a multi-hit effort, as Cairns, Wedl and Smith each registered one.
  • Trudeau dealt her seventh complete game of the season, giving up just one earned run off seven hits while striking out a pair.
