Flames defeated 4-3 by Raiders

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (7-6, 2-1 HL) was dealt its first Horizon League loss of the season on Friday with a 4-3 deficit against Wright State (13-9, 2-0 HL). After losing the doubles point, the Flames rallied back, taking the next three points in singles, but were unable to hold off the Raiders, who took the final three points to win the match.

Doubles Highlights
Lejla Colic and Georgie Sanders started singles play in the No. 1 position, and were unable to come up with an answer against Karoline Haller and Haily Morgan, taking a 6-1 loss. Melika LeBlanc and Rachel Le Comber evened things out with a 6-2 win over Luisa Pelayo and Grace Whitney at No. 2, but Viktoria Seifert and Stefana Vasic could not seal the deal against Madison Riley and Jillian Milano, who took the No. 3 match by a score of 6-3.

Singles Highlights
The Flames took all three of its points consecutively to start singles play, as Le Comber took down Milano 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 to start. Sanders put the Flames ahead with a straight-set victory at No. 2 over Morgan, 6-1, 6-3. Seifert gave UIC a two-point advantage, defeating Whitney, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6. Amelia Guevremont faced Pelayo at No. 3 and was taken down 6-4, 7-5, putting the Raiders back in reaching distance. LeBlanc put up a good fight against Riley, but was unable to seal the deal, as the point went to Wright State with a 6-4, 7-6 (7) win at No. 4. The No. 1 match became the deciding factor, and Colic rallied from a first set loss versus Haller to take the second and force the tiebreaker, but Haller proved stronger in the third set, taking the match by a final score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
