UIC outscored Michigan State on two events, and came within two tenths of the Spartans in the final standings in a dual meet Sunday at UIC Pavilion. With strong showings on the vault, bars, and floor, the Flames made up six tenths of a point on the final rotation, but still came up just on the short end of a 194.275-194.075 score.
"I was proud of the way we took another Big Ten team to the wire," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. Sunday's decision came on the heels of a close finish with Illinois, where the Illini scored just 1.3 points higher than UIC last weekend.
"I was also proud of posting a 194 for the third time this season," Jansson continued, while noting that the Flames could have scored even higher. "I am disappointed in some of the judging. We have to find a way to compete up to the level we have performed in practice to end up on top in these close meets."
