Flames Fall to Kentucky in Regional Opener

UIC will face Michigan in elimination game at 6 p.m. CT

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UIC softball team (33-20) fell 10-1 (5) against Kentucky (32-19) on Saturday morning in round one of NCAA Regionals. The Flames will face Michigan in an elimination contest on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.

Game Highlights vs. Kentucky
  • The Wildcats put runners on first and second with two outs in the first inning after a fielder's choice and a single, and another single to right field gave Kentucky the game's first run. A double followed by an infield single scored two more, allowing the Wildcats to take a 3-0 lead after one.
  • An error and a walk put two on for Kentucky in the second, and a sacrifice bunt moved them both into scoring position. A ground out to second allowed the runner on third to score, growing the Wildcats' lead to four.
  • Two Wildcat errors put Cassie Kaelber and Skylee James on base to start the fourth, but a ground out and a fly out quickly put two outs on the board. A wild pitch allowed Kaelber to finally cross the plate from third and get the Flames their first run, 4-1.
  • Kentucky led off with a walk and a fielder's choice in the fifth, and then followed it with back-to-back singles to tack on another pair of runs. The wildcats would go on to load the bases and clear them with a grand slam to end the game by run rule, 10-1.
