Former UIC basketball star Dikembe Dixson has signed with the Miami Heat for their summer league games, the team confirmed today.

Dixson played two-plus seasons in a UIC uniform, was the team's leading scorer in 2017-18, and scored 1,250 points to rank thirteenth in school history.  After declaring his intent to turn pro after this season's Horizon League tournament, he worked out for several NBA teams and participated in the Professional Basketball Combine.

Dixson will join Miami draft picks, rising second-year players, and other undrafted free agents in representing the Heat this summer.  The Palm Beach Post reports that Dixson's teammates will include 2017 first round pick Bam Adebayo, Notre Dame's Matt Farrell, Michigan's Duncan Robinson, first-team All-SEC selection Daryl Macon (Arkansas), and SEC Player of the Year Yante Mahen (Georgia).

Miami will play three games in Sacramento July 2-5 before the summer league begins in full force July 6 in Las Vegas.  In Vegas, each team is guaranteed five games, including early-round action in the tournament, which will crown a champion on July 17.  All games from Las Vegas will be televised on NBA TV or an ESPN platform.

After unanimously winning Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors in 2016, Dixson averaged over 20 points and six rebounds per game through 10 contests in his sophomore season before suffering an ACL injury.  He rejoined the team in time for the 2017-18 season, in which he helped lead UIC to its first top-3 finish in the Horizon League since 2004.
