LAS VEGAS – UIC capped its stint at the UNLV Invitational on Sunday against UC Santa Barbara, but the offensive attack of the Gauchos was too much for the Flames to handle as they were shut out, 7-0, at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Â
UIC was only offered four shots in the match by way of
Emily Kavanaugh,
Annie Brown,
Keri Birkenhead and
Bridget Paulon with three of those attempts coming on goal. UCSB executed 27 shot attempts and put more than half on goal with 15.
Â
Tara Khayam played her second complete game in goal and needed to make eight saves, the most since she had 12 stops last season at Drake.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The offensive production from the start of the match went to UCSB as it attempted nine shots in the first 20 minutes, with that ninth shot from Jessica Clegg in the 20th minute resulting in the first goal of the game. A mere 31 seconds later, the Gauchos went up 2-0 as Jessica Wright put one in the net.
- Khayam would need to make three more saves before the Flames would get their first shot of the match in the 37th minute at the foot of Kavanaugh, who had her attempt saved. However, UCSB took back control and added to its total less than 30 seconds later with another goal from Wright.
- UIC had a quality chance out of the break as Brown headed the ball off a corner from Rushe and had the attempt stopped. But it was the Gauchos' Shaelan Murison who added a pair of goals in the 51st and 56th minutes, with Jessica Parque adding one in the 56th as well, to put UCSB out 6-0.
- The remaining two shots for the Flames came in the final 10 minutes of the game with Birkenhead taking her shot high and Paulon having her chance saved. After hitting the post then having a shot saved, the Gauchos managed to find their seventh goal from Sarah Arnaudon with 31 seconds remaining in the match.
Â
NOTABLES
- The 7-0 final marked the largest margin of defeat and most goals scored by an opponent for the program.
- The four shots were the fewest taken by the Flames since they were held to two at Northern Arizona in 2016. On the opposite side, UCSB's 27 attempts were the most since 2015 when Saint Louis took 30.

NEXT UP
- UIC heads back to Chicago to gear up for a four-match homestand that begins Friday (Aug. 24) against UMKC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at Flames Field.
