Flames Finish Loyola Fall Invitational

UIC claims 10th place at Flossmoor Country Club

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. -- UIC showed steady improvement from each round to the next during the Loyola Fall Invitational and the the Flames wrapped up the tournament by shooting 326 on the final day to finish the 54-hole tournament with a total of 983. That number placed the squad 10th overall at the event's end.



TEEING OFF
  • Senior Claudia Stampa had UIC's best first-round score at 6-over-par 78 on Monday and she book-ended that with the lowest number on Tuesday. Stampa shot 5-over par 77 to lead the way for the Flames in the third round.
  • Stampa jumped 10 spots on the individual leaderboard Tuesday. The San Sebastian, Spain, native finished the event tied for 22nd with a final total of 24-over-par 240.
  • Meghan Kramp followed up a second-round 82 with an identical mark on Tuesday. The senior was one of three UIC players to tie for 48th at 252, joining Shivani Majmudar and Stephanie Mroz.
  • Majmudar shot the same score, 12-over-par 84, in all three of her rounds at Flossmoor Country Club.
  • Kelly Sterling finished second among UIC's lineup, carding an 83 Tuesday for a final tally of 245. She tied for 34th overall.
  • Competing as an individual, freshman Adrienne Montalone, bounced back Tuesday with a 10-over-par 82. That matched her first round score and she finished tied for 52nd overall at 253.
AROUND THE GREEN
  • UIC improved its team score in all three rounds. The Flames opened with a 330 Monday before shooting 327 in the afternoon. That number was improved by one shot as the team posted a 326 over the final 18 holes.
  • Stampa posted two birdies Tuesday to bring her tournament total to a team-best five. She also led UIC in par-4 scoring at 15-over par and 4.50 strokes per hole.
  • Kelly Sterling was one of the field's best players on the course's four par-3 holes. The senior played that group at 1-over par this week, averaging 3.08 strokes per hole.
  • Tuesday's average score for the field was 82.56, the lowest of the three rounds. UIC's six players shot an average score of 82.2 in the final round.
UP NEXT
  • The Flames will be idle until Saturday, Sept. 29 when they begin a stretch of four consecutive days of competition. UIC will take part in the Diane Thomasson Invitational at Iowa on Sept. 29-30 before traveling to Indianapolis for the Butler Fall Invitational on Oct. 1-2.
  • The tournament at Iowa will be 54 holes at Finkbine Golf Course. The event at Butler will be 36 holes played at Highland Golf Club.
