IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Following a tough day on the course Saturday, UIC bounced back with a strong performance Sunday, shooting 35-over-par 323 to close out the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa. The Flames finished ninth overall in the the tournament with a three-round total of 125-over-par 989.
Sunday's score was nine shots better than the previous best on the weekend. It was also the lowest mark since the Flames fired a 315 on Sept. 11 in the final round of the NKU Fall Classic.
Claudia Stampa, who carded the best round of the day for UIC in the first two rounds, followed up a 6-over-par 78 in the second round with a 7-over-par 79 on Sunday. The senior placed just outside the top 20, 22
nd overall, at 21-over-par 237 for the tournament. Stampa ranked second in the field with 35 pars this weekend and she had one of four birdies posted by the Flames.
Three member of UIC's lineup had their best rounds of the tournament on Sunday. Another senior,
Meghan Kramp, posted the low number for the Flames with a 6-over-par 78 Sunday. That was an eight-shot improvement from her previous best at Finkbine. Freshman
Stephanie Mroz registered a 9-over-par 81, which was one shot off her collegiate best (NKU Fall Classic).
Shivani Majmudar also cut four shots off her best round of this event, collecting an 85 in the final trip around the course.

In a four-day stretch that features 90 holes of golf spread across four days, the UIC Flames will play the next 18 on Monday, Oct. 1 in Indianapolis. The Flames will be at Highland Golf Club for the Butler Fall Invitational. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT and concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
