CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (4-3) was dealt a 3-0 loss to fellow city school Chicago State (4-4) on Tuesday evening. The Flames were held to a mere .074 hitting percentage as a squad, their lowest of the season thus far.

Match Highlights

• Set One: Errors plagued the Flames in the first frame, as the Cougars built an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. The home team would go on to take set one, 25-16.
• Set Two: The Flames stayed close to the home team in the second, and took their first lead of the match at the 12-11 mark, following a kill from Ali Witt.
• Set Two: Chicago State regrouped, and following a timeout, took a 19-13 lead. UIC used a timeout of its own and took seven of the next eight, tying the match at 20.
• Set Two: An attack error and kills from Kiera James helped build a 24-21 lead, but the Cougars proved resilient, taking five straight to take the set, 26-24.
• Set Three: The third frame started with an early 7-3 lead for UIC, but Chicago State quickly turned it around for a comfortable 16-10 lead. The Flames were unable to make a comeback, dropping the set 25-17 to give the Cougars the sweep.

Facts & Figures

• Clara Lamb paced the Flames' offense with nine kills. Paola Santiago tallied six, while Kiera James recorded five.
• Manuela Conte led the way in digs with 10, as Marija Borcic and Velina Minkova each dug out nine.
• Borcic led the squad with 20 assists. Lauren Musante recorded eight helpers.
• The Flames blocked just six as a team. Ali Witt and Lamb each ended the evening with three total blocks.
