The Flames (8-9, 2-2 Horizon League) are seeking back-to-back wins for the first time during Horizon League play. UIC opened Thursday's game against Youngstown State with a 14-0 lead and the home team never looked back.
Tarkus Ferguson made a career-high seven 3-pointers, all of which came in the first half against the Penguins, en route to a game-high 23 points.
Godwin Boahen added four 3-pointers of his own and 21 points as the Flames shot 55.4 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from 3-point range in the triumph.
Cleveland State (5-13, 0-5 Horizon League) is at the end of a grueling four-game road trip that has also featured stops at Milwaukee, Green Bay and IUPUI. The Vikings fell on Thursday night at IUPUI, 90-74, despite a career-high 18 points from
Jaalam Hill and 18 more from
Stefan Kenic.
The road team has had the upper hand in the series over the last two seasons. UIC has not defeated Cleveland State at Credit Union 1 Arena (formerly UIC Pavilion) since Jan. 30, 2016. That thrilling 72-70 victory was the first Horizon League win for Flames head coach
Steve McClain.
For fans unable to make it to Credit Union 1 Arena, Saturday's game will be broadcast on
ESPN+. Jonathan Hood and Chris Bleck will be on the call.
