Flames seeking second-straight Horizon League win

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-13, 1-4 HL) will play host to Detroit Mercy (2-13, 0-4 HL) on Sunday, Jan. 13. The two teams will tipoff at noon CT inside Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames are seeking their second-straight Horizon League win after a 69-65 overtime victory over Oakland on Friday.

  • Brittany Byrd scored her 1,000th-career point on Friday as part of a 2-of-2 showing at the free throw line. Byrd's 1,000th point came with just 18 seconds left in regulation and was instrumental in UIC's fourth-quarter comeback and resulting overtime victory over the Golden Grizzlies.
  • Byrd is just the 23rd player in UIC history to eclipse 1,000-career points and the first since Ruvanna Campbell racked up 1,671 career points from 2013-16.
  • Jada Nneji reeled in her second-straight double-double on Friday, pairing 15 points with a career-high 15 rebounds. The sophomore also tallied seven blocks to now lead the Horizon League with a 2.3 blocks per game average.
  • Kiarra Thompson made a career-high three 3-pointers against the Golden Grizzlies, ending the night with a career-high 17 points to lead the Flames. Thompson also stole a personal-best five and made five rebounds.
  • Jasmine Gaines upped her career-high points to seven on Friday, while also dishing out a personal-best four assists against Oakland.
