CHICAGO -- UIC will leave Chicago for the first time in 2019 this week to begin a brief two-game road trip through Wisconsin. The journey starts on Thursday, Jan. 17 with a stop at UWM Panther Arena to face the Milwaukee Panthers at 7 p.m. The Flames will continue on to Green Bay, where they will tangle with the Phoenix on Saturday, Jan. 19 at noon.
UIC (9-9, 3-2 Horizon League) has won its last two conference contests, doing so in rather convincing fashion. The Flames got back on track on Jan. 10 by topping Youngstown State, 78-63. UIC opened the game by going on a 14-0 run and it never looked back.
Tarkus Ferguson made a career-high seven 3-pointers against the Penguins, all of which came in the first half. The Flames shot over 55 percent from the field in that win, and more than 45 percent from beyond the arc.
UIC followed up that effort by matching a program record and knocking down 17 3-pointers on Saturday against Cleveland State. The Flames never trailed as they toppled the Vikings, 73-56. Ferguson added six more 3-pointers, while
Jamie Ahale added a career-high four 3-pointers Saturday. It was the third time that UIC sank 17 3-pointers, and the first since Feb. 8, 1996 against Northern Illinois. The Flames took 38 3-point shots against CSU, most in program history.
Milwaukee (7-11, 2-3 Horizon League) is coming off a road trip to Oakland and Detroit Mercy. The Panthers picked up a three-point win at Oakland on Jan. 10 before dropping a close decision at Detroit Mercy on Jan. 12. MKE is 4-4 at home this season and 1-2 in Horizon League play. The Panthers are one of the country's top teams at the free throw line, making 76.7 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe, which ranks 10
th in the NCAA.
UIC has won four consecutive regular-season games in the series, however the Panthers have had the upper hand in postseason play of late. Milwaukee has eliminated the Flames from the Horizon League Championship in each of the last two seasons.
